I was born and brought up in the small valley town of Rhymney in South Wales, famous for its poet Idris Davies, its brewery (alas no longer there) and the bells featured in the famous folk song… ‘The Bells of Rhymney’.
I have been interested in photography from an early age – I remember taking black and white photos with my ‘Brownie’ – and used to develop my own prints in the bathroom of our house, being an avid member of the school camera club.
After my A levels I had a place offered me at the Ealing School of Photography and also at London University to read Zoology. Unfortunately, my parents felt that a ‘proper’ degree was better than being a photographer so I ended up a frustrated zoologist.
Fortunately, after graduating, I joined Unilever and then spent most of my working life worked in advertising and marketing which at least allowed me to study the many genres of visual imaging.
My passion has always been for landscape photography as it allowed me to spend as much time as possible in the wild outdoors, especially participating in walking, biking and kayaking. Therefore you won’t find many people, pets, or buildings in my work.
I get most pleasure from seeing the colours of nature as they appear in the light at a specific moment of a day or season and then capturing that moment by ‘stopping it in time’.
Although most of my landscape images are of Wales I have also travelled in other parts of the UK, Spain, Turkey, Sardinia, Malawi, Thailand, New Zealand and the USA so I am now utilising some of these places in my current work.
I hope that you will enjoy my images.
